    BACKGROUND
The Bikathlon is an exciting innovation of the Biathlon, which is a winter Olympic sport involving cross country skiing and smallbore rifle shooting. First introduced by Crosman Air Guns at the Masters Tournament in 1987, the Bikathlon replaced the skis with BMX bikes or Mountainbikes and the firearms with CO2 powered airguns.

    THE EVENT

    The Course
The Percival's Island course is a loop trail approximately 2.75 miles long. The course begins on the Lynchburg side of Percival's Island, travels its entire length, and returns. About 50% of the trail is singletrack dirt, and the other half is paved. There is one point where bikers will have to portage around some steps, but the rest is wide open!

    2D Map of the Route
View a 2-D Map (left) or a 3-D Map (right) of the Bikathlon Course (due to construction delays, the bridge from Percival's Island to Amherst County will not be open in time for the event)

    Scoring
Upon completition of a safety clinic, a scorecard is issued to the participant which is attached to the wrist. The "time out" is entered on the scorecard and the "starter" releases the participant. The competitor travels the course, stopping at each shooting station. The participant is directed to an open firing point and proceeds to shoot five shots (one shot at each of five bull's eye targets). A 15 second penalty is given to each missed target. Upon completing the course, the "Time Keeper" enters the "time in" on the scorecard and the overall score is based on a combination of best time and shooting skill.

    Air Guns, Shooting, and Targets
Crosman Air Guns will be supplying state of the art competition grade air rifles. All participants will be trained on their use prior to beginning the course. Proper safety equipment will be issued at each firing station. Under no circumstances will any participant be allowed to use his or her air gun. The targets consist of five 1.5" resettable steel disks placed 25 feet from the firing point. When a pellet hits a target, the target falls.

    Prizes
Several local and national businesses, including Bikes Unlimited, Crosman Air Guns, and Outdoor Trails have donated great prizes for this event! The First Place winner in each class will receive a merchandise prize. Other prizes will be distributed if available.

All participants, regardless of ranking, will be entered into a drawing to receive a Crosman 1077 Semi-Autmatic Air Rifle (pictured below) with accesories ($100 value))
