Service...
In addition to batteau and outdoor high adventure
activities, Crew 1776 assists the Blackwater Creek Association by representing
it at community events.. Above is a photo of the crew's
display at National Trails Day on Percival's Island on June 3rd of this
year.
The Crew has formed a partnership with the City
of Lynchburg Waste Management Division and "adopted" two locations:
-
Adopt-A-Street: Cabell, Norwood, and two other
streets in Lynchburg's Daniel's Hill Historic District. The crew
is responsible for keeping the block that surrounds Point
of Honor (below) free of litter. Built in the early 19th century by
Dr. George Cabell (Patrick Henry's personal physician), Point of Honor
is open daily and is operated by the Lynchburg Museum System.

-
Adopt-A-Trail: The Crew has also adopted two
major sections of the Blackwater Creek Trail:
-
The section running from Percival's Island along
Jefferson Street, along the right bank of Blackwater Creek, through the
Hollins Mill Railroad Tunnel.
-
The section running along the left bank of Blackwater
Creek, from Griffin Pipe to Hollins Mill.

Creek in Lynchburg.
The crew is also entering an agreement with the Lynchburg Department of Parks & Recreation
whereby Venturing Crew 1776 will assist Eagle Scout candidates in selecting,
planning, and implementing meaningful service projects on Percival's Island,
The James Riverfront, and the Blackwater Creek Natural Area and Trail.
