Blackwater Creek Cleanup. Saturday April 24th, 9:30am. Meet at Hollins Mill Park (see below for directions).

This Saturday April 24th, community residents in partnership with the Blackwater Creek Association and the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality will be conducting a cleanup along Blackwater Creek in Lynchburg.

Volunteers will meet at two locations: Thomson Drive (below Lynchburg General Hospital) at 9:00am. This section is being sponsored by the DEQ and will run from Thomson Drive to Hollins Mill Road. Volunteers will meet in the parking lot of Blue Ridge Therapy Associates, 1948 Thomson Road. For more information, contact Kelly Willis at 434-582-5120 ext. 6042.

Hollins Mill Park, Hollins Mill Road at 9:30am. This section is being sponsored by the BCA and will run from Hollins Mill Road to the James River includes Blackwater Creek, walking trails on both sides of creek, and streets around Point of Honor). DRIVING DIRECTIONS TO HOLLINS MILL PARK

  • From Big Island/Buena Vista/Lexington: Take US 501 into Lynchburg. You will reach a "T" intersection with Boonsboro Road and the 501/Lynchburg Expressway. Turn left onto Boonsboro Road and proceed past two shopping centers. At Link Road, Boonsboro Road will change into Rivermont Avenue...continue straight on Rivermont Avenue. Continue past Virginia Baptist Hospital and Randolph-Macon Woman's College. Turn right onto Bedford Avenue. You will pass a Food Lion on your right. Turn right onto Hollins Mill Road. After crossing Blackwater Creek, turn right into the Hollins Mill Parking Lot.

  • From Bedford/Roanoke via US 460: Take US 460 Bypass into Lynchburg. Take the lefthand Candler's Mountain Road Ramp (this is the only ramp on the left side of 460). After two lights, you will pass a Wachovia Bank. Take the US 29 North/Lynchburg Expressway ramp (immediately past the Days Inn). Proceed on the Lynchburg Expressway until you reach the Main Street/Downtown exit (if you cross the James River, you've gone too far). Bear right onto Main Street at the top of the ramp, and drive through the Central Business District. At 5th Street, proceed straight onto Rivermont Avenue. You will cross a bridge and climb a hill...at the top of the hill, be on the lookout for a gas station on your left. Just past the gas station, turn left onto Bedford Avenue. At the next light, turn left onto Hollins Mill Road. After crossing Blackwater Creek, turn right into the Hollins Mill Parking Lot.

  • From Charlottesville/Amherst via US 29: Take US 29 into Madison Heights. Just past the K-Mart Shopping Center (on your right) take the US 29 Business exit, and merge onto US 29 Business. Proceed across the James River and turn right at the second stoplight onto Main Street/Rivermont Avenue. You will cross a bridge and climb a hill...at the top of the hill, be on the lookout for a gas station on your left. Just past the gas station, turn left onto Bedford Avenue. At the next light, turn left onto Hollins Mill Road. After crossing Blackwater Creek, turn right into the Hollins Mill Parking Lot.
